Extend your Cables

If your cable are too short, or your move your Mac over and the cable won't fit, what can you do?

Get a plastic cable extender. I don't have a picture right now so I will describe it:
( A small plastic connector bridging two male cable end together. The "bridge" has two female RJ-11 or RJ-45 connectors.)

This works with LocalTalk, EtherTalk (Ethernet) and TokenTalk (Token-Ring).

** Note: You cannot mix and match RJ-11 and RJ-45 cables, they have to be alike.

How many feet can you string your cables?

LocalTalk (Using AppleTalk connectors) - 100 feet

LocalTalk (using PhoneNet) -

Daisy chained - 1,800 feet / 550 meters with 24 Macs.
BackBone - 4,500 feet / 1,372 meters with any number of Macs.

EtherTalk (Ethernet) -

10BaseT/100BaseT - 328 feet / 100 meters
10Base5 (Thicknet) - 1,640 feet / 500 meters
10Base2 (Thinnet) - 606 feet / 185 meters

TokenTalk (Token-Ring) - 148 - 656 feet / 45-200 meters

Airport (Wireless) - 150 feet / 491 meters
